Making Strides in Potable Reuse from FWEA Utility Council
The Florida Water Environment Association Utility Council (FWEAUC) has created shareable resources on potable reuse in Florida, documenting achievements and providing educational material on how potable reuse is a valuable part of Florida’s potable water and environmental stewardship strategy.
Floridians continue to respond to the call for strong environmental stewardship by leading the US in reclaimed water use. Organizations like the FWEAUC have been working with Florida government agencies, such as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, to build on this success.
FWEAUC has worked with Florida legislators and departments to craft legislation for potable reuse permitting rules that are efficient to implement and robust in their public and environmental protection. In addition to these legislative achievements, FWEAUC has also been working towards greater public education and increasing utility participation in potable reuse.
Technology to improve the safety and efficacy of water treatment from all sources, including reuse, is in a period of heavy development and advancement, and some Florida potable water utilities are already testing novel treatment methods to reduce costs for their customers and ensure future water supply by investing in reuse.
To help educate the public and encourage state and local participation in water reuse programs, FWEAUC has created a two-page info sheet you can use to learn more.
