See how SediVision’s advanced technology for wastewater structure assessment delivers detailed data, helping utilities managers, operators, and engineering teams make informed maintenance decisions.

Location:

3.5 MGD in Central FL

Problem:

A 3.5 MGD wastewater treatment facility was looking for information on accumulated debris in their aeration tanks to plan for capacity restoration in two large (30,000 sq ft), in-ground aeration basins. This type of large-area structure is challenging to assess using traditional wastewater structure assessment methods like probing, leading to guesswork about whether maintenance is needed.

How SediVision Helped:

SediVision assessed the two aeration tanks and provided a detailed report, showing a total of 1,606.6 cubic yards of material across the two basins. The accumulation of debris was almost a mirror image across both structures, showing isolated mounds on each side of the basin.

Figure 1: False color elevation map of debris inside the assessed structure. The scale runs from red to blue, where red indicates high elevation or areas with a large volume of debris, and blue indicates low elevation or areas with less accumulation. The aeration equipment is represented by the yellow line through the center of the structure.

Outcome:

The data helped give the utility a better understanding of what was in their aeration basins. With a detailed view of the sediment across the entire structure of each tank, the facility was able to strategically plan and budget for cleaning out debris. How detailed can SediVision get? In the South Aeration Basin, a notable 4-foot-long unidentified object was hiding out along the bottom near a pile of sediment, believed to be a possible alligator! For context, these basins are in-ground and near a large body of water. Local alligators could not be reached for comment.
