USST Case Study: Wastewater Structure Debris Removal, Double-time
Wastewater structure debris removal above and beyond expectations on a tight schedule
A contractor on a Central Florida wastewater facility expansion project contacted U.S. Submergent Technologies (USST) to request the removal of an estimated 335 tons of sand, grit, and sediment from an equalization (EQ) tank. This project had a narrow window for debris removal of 8-9 working days. USST estimated that between 160 -180 tons could be removed in that timeframe using best-practice estimates of 20 tons per day. The contractor and the facility agreed to proceed with the cleaning, knowing that removing about half the debris in the tank would be a valuable performance improvement..
When the tank was drained for cleaning, the USST crew took advantage of the absence of diffuser equipment at the bottom of the tank to increase production speed. This flexibility allowed the team to surpass the original estimate of debris removal, and finish ahead of schedule.

The dedicated efficiency and adaptability of the experienced USST crew allowed a 160-ton removal estimate to become almost 350 tons removed and hauled offsite. The USST team safely and effectively performed the confined-space cleaning in fewer than eight (8) days, supporting the project timeline goals of the facility and contractor.
