Water Week 2026: 7th Annual Lexington, KY Environmental Event Series

This Water Week, Lexington, Kentucky will be celebrating seven years of water-focused environmental appreciation and education. The city already has a few key events planned for all ages, and has encouraged the community to plan and host Water Week events of their own.
Water Week is sponsored by the City of Lexington, University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Fayette County Public Schools and local watershed groups.
Water Week 2026 Highlights from the City Calendar
Reforest Frenzy – March 21st – Select between a 1 mile dash, a 5k and a 10k run course. All proceeds go to Reforest the Bluegrass, an ongoing effort to add to the tree canopy and support waterways through helping establish healthy root systems near the banks.
Water Week: Salamander Spotlight – March 21st – This is an all-ages educational event. Explore wetland areas and discover mature salamanders in their natural habitat, or see them at various life stages in the Raven Run Nature Sanctuary temporary observation tanks.
Spectacular Springs: A Karst Topography Tour – March 22nd – This is an all ages, educational, free event that will take you off-trail at McConnell Springs Park.
On Monday, March 23rd, there will be two water-related community meeting events, a virtual meeting concerning stormwater quality grants, and an in-person Wolf Run Watershed Council meeting. The stormwater quality grants meeting may be of extra interest to schools, nonprofits, businesses or other organizations who are looking for opportunities to improve stormwater management on properties in their care. Saturday, March 28th there are multiple Earth Hour volunteer opportunities to help clean up local waterways. Check the calendar for the complete list of environmentally-focused all ages activities.
